Natural Essential Oil - Blue Chamomile

Natural Essential Oil – Blue Chamomile
Oroil Line – Organic and Wild Essential Oils
INCI: Chamomilla Recutita Oil
The intense purity of blue, captured in the essence of an ancient flower
Among the most appreciated essential oils in European herbal tradition, Blue Chamomile holds a special place for its extraordinary aromatic composition and the distinctive intense blue color that sets it apart from all other essences. Sweet, herbal, and delicately balsamic, its fragrance evokes the calm of the summer countryside and the value of a medicinal plant used for centuries for skin wellness and emotional balance.
The Blue Chamomile Essential Oil from the Oroil Line is obtained by steam distillation from the dried flower heads of Matricaria chamomilla, belonging to the Compositae family. 100% pure, with no additives, it contains the concentrated essence of one of the most well-known and studied medicinal plants worldwide.
Botany and tradition
Matricaria chamomilla, also known as Chamomilla recutita or German Chamomile, is an annual herbaceous plant native to Europe and Western Asia, now widespread in many temperate regions worldwide. Since ancient times, it has been used in herbal traditions to prepare infusions, extracts, and remedies aimed at general wellness and skin care.
The uniqueness of Blue Chamomile lies in the presence of Chamazulene, a compound formed during the distillation process that gives the essential oil its characteristic intense blue color. This substance, along with Bisabolol derivatives, makes the essence highly valued in modern aromatherapy and natural cosmetics dedicated to sensitive and delicate skin.
Its preciousness is also linked to the relatively low extraction yield: to obtain 1 liter of pure essential oil, approximately 150–300 kg of fresh plant material is generally required, equivalent to about 150–300 g of plant matter per single ml of essential oil (about 20 drops).
Composition and aromatic profile
The phytochemical profile of Blue Chamomile Essential Oil is characterized by the presence of sesquiterpenes and oxygenated derivatives that define its distinctive aroma and the properties traditionally associated with skin wellness and relaxation:
-
Chamazulene – responsible for the typical blue color of the essential oil and its sweet, deep aromatic note.
-
Alpha-Bisabolol-Oxide – a component traditionally appreciated in preparations for delicate skin.
-
Bisabolol-a-Oxide – contributes to the softness and balance of the aromatic profile.
-
Beta-Farnesene – a sesquiterpene with herbal and slightly green nuances.
-
Alpha-Farnesene – enriches the fragrance with sweet and floral notes.
-
Germacrene-D – adds depth and complexity to the overall aroma.
This composition makes Blue Chamomile one of the most sought-after essential oils in aromatherapy and natural cosmetics.
